| I guess the link below to the Brazilian Missionary slideshow doesn't work anymore because of copyright violation. It's too bad because I liked the video. |

It's the end of the 30 day "no music" challenge. It was tough, but I learned a lot! I learned that I have a lot of work to do. It's weird, but it made me notice that I have work to do in a lot of areas of my life, besides just the music area. That's what's great about life though, is that there is always something new to learn! I love how much of a challenge it is! I wasn't always this positive though...life throws us through a lot of hoops.
No music for me has meant that I've had to focus on other things. I love listening to music! When I don't listen to music, I sing. But, since I haven't been listening to as much music, I've been singing less and, therefore, I've been able to think of other things. I've started focusing on thinking about my relationship with Heavenly Father. I've been able to become more aware of the needs of others. I've been able to become more aware of who I am.
This was a great exercise! I won't ever be able to stop listening to music, but I will definitely try to be more aware of what I'm listening to.
On a different note: I recorded a song a couple weeks ago at a studio in Utah called Soularium Recording Studios. I will be posting a link to the song in a couple days and it will be free to download!!! Stay tuned! |

So, I haven't written for a few days!!!
I've had some very exciting things happen lately, but I can't let the secrets out just yet. I'll give you a hint...it has something to do with music!
Anyway, the music challenge is going well! I'm enjoying the peace that I'm feeling. It's helped me because lately I've been experiencing a little stress at work. Nothing big, but enough to stress over.
Instead of only hymns, I've also been listening to books on CD. I like to listen to educational and inspirational books, and talks, on CD. I have some CD's by John Bytheway, Gene R. Cook, and books like "As a Man Thinketh." It's been such a great experience so far! |

Happy 4th of July!!!! I love this day! I love the music and happiness of this day!
I need to report a little on how the music challenge is going. For those of you just reading this, the music challenge is to go for 30 days without listening to music, unless it is a spiritual hymn.
Now some of you might say, "That's impossible!!" I know, it is, because music surrounds us every day. I'm just saying that we need to consciously turn the music off. When you're in the car, listen to hymns. When you're with your friends, ask them to turn the music off. Let them know that this is important for you spiritually. It's only for 30 days!!!
I know, I said, "It's only for 30 days!!!" Well, I have to admit something. This is probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I never realized how much of a habit music is. It's an addiction and it is so strong subconsiously that even when I try to not listen to it, I forget and turn on the radio. I, of course, then remember and turn it off, but I want you to know that it is a struggle.
This test might seem goofy to some, but it's a real test of self-control, more than I ever thought it would be. If you think it sounds goofy and think it would be easy for you, then you're probably someone that needs to try it. I encourage everyone to try it. It's a real eye opener as to just how much music affects us.
Anyway, I hope everyone has an amazing Fourth of July!!! |

| It's hard getting used to not listening to my ordinary music. I find myself singing or hearing the melodies of my favorites in my head. I've even turned on the radio a couple times without thinking about it, but I caught myself and turned it right back off. This challenge to go without music for 30 days, except hymns, is a tough one, but I'm sure I'll see the benefits when it's all through. |

So, today I was driving down the freeway and was listening to hymns. Traffic was crazy! But, inside my car it was nice and peaceful. It was a neat thought to have while the world outside was so hectic.
On a different note...last night I watched a movie with my wife. I won't name it but it had music, of course. It was a movie that was recommended by friends, it had a PG rating, and sounded like a really funny movie, so we watched it. It was full of garbage and the music and pictures drove the spirit from the room. I'm guilty of lasting through the movie. I should have turned it off.
My wife and I discussed that if we wouldn't let our children watch the movie, then why should we be able to...I definitely wouldn't have wanted my children to watch that movie. I'm going to start following that rule. I think about the scripture where Jesus says that we need to "become as little children" (Matt. 18:3) and I wonder why we allow ourselves to be subject to questionable material just because we are older or more mature.
If we need to "become as little children" and we are all of us "children of God," (Gal. 3:26) then wouldn't that mean that we are all subject to the same rules? Please, give me your thoughts on the subject. I would like to know what other people think of this. |

At the Youth Conference in Kutztown, PA I had the pleasure of doing a workshop on music. It was so much fun! I had planned on doing a challenge for all three groups, but ran out of time the first two groups. If you were in the first two groups, I would still like you to participate in this challenge.
I'm challenging everyone, myself included, to go without worldly music for 30 days. The only music we can listen to is Hymns. This isn't to make us quit listening to other types of music, but to help us become more aware of what it is we are actually listening to.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this as you progress through the challenge. Please make sure to post your experiences. I will post mine each day.
It has been two days since the YC and everything seems to be going normal. I haven't listened to the radio and it's great...so far. I was exhausted yesterday though. I sang a HYMN (solo) in church and was about to fall asleep doing it because I was so tired. The Youth Conference really wore me out because it was so much fun!!
I'll give you another update on my music challenge soon. |
